The Nullabor (Fowlers Bay - Cocklebiddy)

Saturday morning we left Fowlers Bay to see how far we can get.  We made it about 700 km crossed the boarder into WA and all the way to a roadhouse on the Nullabor called Cocklebiddy. This part of the trip we really did not know what to expect but it was beautiful.  It is a straight road that is quite well travelled but there is nothing, just people on the move.  No towns, shacks, or signs of any kind of living quarters.  Just lots of signs to watch out for wild animals.  In this part of the outback there are camels, emus, cows, kangaroos, echidna and wedge tail eagles.  The eagles are huge and they definitely own the area!

Crossing the Nullabor feels like a real accomplishment but it is no longer remote as in travel because you can certainly drive it and get fuel every couple of hundred kilometres.  But it is technologically remote.  There is no service for days not just mobile service but it was hard to find a radio station as well.  The country changes from salt bush and blue bush to low trees and then nothing but the Great Australian Bight Marine park...stunning.

This part of the country is the true meaning of mixed use.  We crossed three sections of the highway where sections are also used for the Royal Flying Doctors, so a runway.
