Busselton, WA

Spent the day in Busselton.  Beautiful little town but so busy compared to what we were used to.  We had the chance to stock up on a few things like flip flops that have blown out!

We found an old jail precinct that was refurbished and now operates as an artists community.  We were lucky to see a glass artist at work and a painter.  Both very inspiring!

We walked the Busselton Jetty.  The jetty extend 1.8 kilometres over the protected waters of Geographe Bay.  The Jetty is heritage listed as the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere.  Construction of the Busselton Jetty began in 1865 at just 161 meters.  Throughout the years additions were made due to sand drifts and needs.  90 years later the Jetty stands at 1.8 km long.  The Jett no longer services the ships but now stands for tourism.  This Jetty after more than a centre of use serviced over 5000 vessels closed in 1973.  In 2011 a $27 million refurbishment of the jetty structure was completed.

The day was completed with seafood on the beach and the best ice-cream in WA (according to Mayarn) and a full moon!
