For the first time on our trip we encountered 47 degrees (Yellowdine), bush fires and gale force winds. We certainly battled the elements. As we approached Merredin we could see the bush fires ahead and so decided to turn around and head back to the nearest station to check on the status. All was clear so drove back to Merredin under a glorious sunset to be greeted in Merredin Tourist Park with gale force winds, lightening and wild weather. We were all so exhausted we fell asleep with no dinner.
Still adjusting to the new time we were up again at 5am so took advantage of it and got on the road. Travelling through very small places everything was closed because it was Sunday. We have now cleaned out our little stock of canned food and still after about 1500 kilometres can't get fresh food. I think across the Nullabor I have seen about 10 pieces of fruit that looked like it had been sitting there for a very long time. Many stops sign to not pay attention to the use by dates as they have fresh frozen bread and milk. Most places their food comes in on trucks 3 times a week so supplies are very hard to come by. As is water. Water in many places we have found does not work. Signs up saying we are in drought there is no tap water here.
Here's the Nullabor...
